Bloodless Medicine and Surgery/Transfusion Alternatives Center (TAC)

Saint Francis Hospital is the first in the region to offer a comprehensive Blood Conservation Program, which provides patients with an alternative to transfusion, and helps to identify and treat anemia before surgery. Through a multidisciplinary approach, physicians and nurses collaborate to support and educate our physicians and community. As a result, the patients surgical and medical experiences and overall health outcomes are enhanced.

Advanced Techniques for Blood Conservation
  • Anesthetic techniques: controlled hypotension, regional anesthesia
  • Cell Savers (salvage): with special circuits for Jehovah’s Witnesses
  • Chemical hemostatic agents
  • Surgical hemostatic tools
  • Interventional radiologic techniques
  • Non-blood volume expanders
  • Pulse oximetry to measure oxygen in your blood
  • Synthetic recombinant drug technologies
